Milly Alcock, renowned for her role as young Rhaenyra Targaryen in HBO's "House of the Dragon," is set to soar as the latest Supergirl in DC Studios' upcoming film, "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow." The brainchild of James Gunn and Peter Safran in the new DC Universe, the project, confirmed by Gunn on Instagram, awaits a director while Ana Nogueira crafts the screenplay.

Hailing from Australia, Alcock's acting journey began on Aussie TV, ultimately leading her to the breakout role on "Game of Thrones" prequel series. Praised for her portrayal of the Targaryen princess, Alcock's transition to Supergirl marks a significant leap in her career.

While the film's release timeline remains uncertain, the early announcement hints at a possible introduction of Supergirl alongside Superman in "Superman: Legacy." Gunn's emphasis on a fresh start for the new DC Universe distinguishes it from previous cinematic iterations, promising a unique and captivating take on the iconic character.

Supergirl, also known as Kara Zor-El, has seen various renditions in recent years, with Melissa Benoist and Sasha Calle taking on the role. Gunn's vision, revealed in the 2022 comic book run of "Woman of Tomorrow," portrays Kara's upbringing on Krypton, witnessing its destruction until the age of 14.

This gritty portrayal adds a new layer to the character, making her "much more hardcore," as explained by Gunn during the unveiling of the new DCU slate in 2023.
