Shah Rukh Khan has been riding a rollercoaster of successes and setbacks this year. While his movies "Jawan" and "Pathaan" soared past the Rs 1,000 crore mark globally, his latest offering, "Dunki," failed to ignite the same level of excitement upon its release.

Despite hitting theaters with a bang, raking in Rs 30 crore domestically on its opening day, "Dunki" found itself ranked as the seventh-largest opener this year, trailing behind the likes of "Jawan," "Animal," "Pathaan," "Tiger 3," "Gadar 2," and even the notorious flop "Adipurush."

Although "Dunki" falls short compared to Shah Rukh Khan's other films this year, it still outshines the opening earnings of several other movies like "Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan," "Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar," "Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani," and "Dream Girl 2."

With an overall occupancy of around 29.94% on its release day, "Dunki" encountered a mixed response across different regions, with NCR and Mumbai showing moderate turnouts. However, the real test arrives as "Dunki" gears up to clash with Prashanth Neel’s multilingual release, "Salaar," headlined by Prabhas and Prithviraj Sukumaran, expected to rake in over Rs 60 crore on its opening day.

Although "Dunki" falls short of his previous successes, Shah Rukh Khan's opening day figures surpass those of his 2018 film "Zero," which struggled to make an impact at the box office. Similarly, for director Rajkumar Hirani, known for his box office prowess, "Dunki's" opening figures lag behind his previous blockbuster "Sanju," starring Ranbir Kapoor.

Amidst the shadow of "Animal’s" massive triumph, "Dunki" boasts a star-studded cast including Taapsee Pannu and Vicky Kaushal, yet faces an uphill battle to leave a lasting mark in the competitive film landscape.
