"Dunki" Box Office: Shah Rukh Khan's latest film seems to be facing a bit of a struggle in drawing audiences to the theaters. Early estimates from Sacnilk.com indicate that the film collected ₹20 crore on its second day, a decline from the ₹30 crore opening day earnings. Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, the film's total earnings stand at ₹49.20 crore.
The movie garnered an overall occupancy of 31.22 percent (Hindi) on Friday, with Mumbai and Chennai showing the highest audience turnout compared to other cities in India. Despite this, "Dunki" hasn't quite met the sky-high expectations set for it.
Film trade analyst Ramesh Bala predicts a strong weekend for the movie, estimating a collection of ₹21 crore+ on day 2 and a promising overall weekend box office performance.
"Dunki" is a comedy-drama centered around the concept of 'donkey flight,' an illegal immigration technique. Alongside Shah Rukh Khan, the film stars Taapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal, Boman Irani, Vikram Kochhar, and Anil Grover. This cinematic tale of friendships, borders, nostalgia, and love marks Shah Rukh's third and final release of the year. Despite the high anticipation, the film opened to the lowest figures among his 2023 releases.
The collaboration with renowned director Rajkumar Hirani and the on-screen pairing of Shah Rukh and Taapsee for the first time made "Dunki" a much-anticipated venture. The movie, however, seems to be faring better in overseas markets, raking in ₹58 crore on its opening day.
Shah Rukh Khan's wife and co-producer of the film, Gauri Khan, shared the global earnings, celebrating the film's success abroad with a total of ₹58 crore in global box office collections.
